The Fey story…

When I was little, my grandmother, would smile and say, “Did you know that we Feys are from the fairies?”

And somehow, I knew it was true...

The name Fey, meaning “fairy” is my maiden name, my daughter Eva’s middle name, and the thread that ties our story together — a story of land, lineage, and listening to the plants. This is more than skincare. It’s a return to something ancient and alive.

My grandmother, Beth Fey was known as the garden lady, the original garden fairy and my dearest Grannymum. She was the magic in my childhood - the gentle healing hands, the wise storyteller, keeper of fairy secrets and the sacred language of plants…

Her parents were among the first to grow and distill geranium essential oil in Kenya, and exported it to France.

That scent — green, floral, comforting — runs through our bloodline. At 21, I was given a box of my great-grandfather’s essential oil books and personal notes from his distillery. A year later, someone handed me a geranium leaf and said, “Your grandfather would love to speak to you”… And the plants have been speaking ever since.

I grew up on a farm in South Africa, my parents were farmers, my brother is a farmer and we all share the same love for plants, perhaps just in slightly different way… I spent a lot of my childhood days with my grandmother in the Drakensberg mountains and, along with my father, she was the one who really fostered a deep love in us for the natural world. She would talk to her plants and the fairies that lived there - she just had an truly special gift with plants, animals and children alike. In essence, she was my gift, my inspiration, my teacher.

Today, myself, my husband (who is also a budding farmer) and our two daughters (the next generation of garden fairies) grow our own herbs and flowers and distill hydrosols on our small farm at the foothills of Mt Kenya. We gather knowledge, and walk the land with reverence. I believe every plant carries a story, and every harvest is a moment of connection — to nature, to self, and to those who came before.

Fey Botanicals honors this heritage. It is a continuation of the care my ancestors showed the land, reawakened in a new form. We are caretakers of wild gardens, guided by the generosity of plants and the quiet rituals of tending, gathering, blending.

Geranium, especially, continues to guide me. She opens the heart, soothes, and teaches compassion. I like to think she remembers our family too.

This is the story of Fey Botanicals. A story passed down in scent, in soil, and in spirit.

Thank you for sharing this journey with us.
